                                The founding members of BCSA Inc. include entomologists,

                                conservationists, naturalists, botanists, butterfly enthusiasts

                                and bushland regeneration specialists.The group works 

                                closely with the SA Museum and was fortunate to have the sup- 

                                port of Robert H. Fisher, OAM, A.U.A.,F.R.E.S., [author of

                                "Butterflies of South Australia" see 'Profiles' page]. The inaugural committee in-

                                cluded butterfly enthusiasts Lindsay Hunt, Roger Grund, Mike 

                                Moore, Marcus Pickett, plant conservationist David Keane 

                                [Treasurer], Beth Rostron [Chairman], and Entomology Senior

                                Collection Manager at the SA Museum, Jan Forrest, OAM,

WHERE HAVE ALL THE BUTTERFLIES GONE?

A South Australian Museum exhibition in association with

‘Butterfly Conservation SA Inc.’

The exhibition features 35 South Australian butterfly species and over 250 photographs.

The exhibition is divided into the habitat/geographical areas of:

GRASSLAND - 2 panels

ARID AND SEMI ARID LANDS - 1 panel

MALLEE - 2 panels

EUCALYPTUS FOREST & OPEN WOODLAND - 2 panels

COASTAL - 2 panels

WETLAND - 1 panel

VAGRANT AND MIGRANT - 2 panels

LOWER SOUTH EAST - 2 panels

URBAN - 3 panels

Each habitat panel depicts the life history of two butterfly species. The distribution, flight period, conservation status, threats and conservation strategy for each species is also included.

The urban set of 3 panels depict the life histories of 6 butterfly species. Illustrations of all other urban Adelaide butterflies are included.

An Introductory set of five panels include: butterfly classification; the difference between butterflies and moths; structure of a butterfly; the life cycle of a butterfly and butterfly ecology. The last panel of the Introduction illustrates causes of butterfly species decline and what can be done to elleviate this decline both in the urban and rural situation.

Outreach Program: As part of the Museum’s outreach program to assist conservation groups to gain an understanding of and to promote butterfly conservation in South Australia, a copy of each of the butterfly panels has been made as posters.

This set of posters are now available for display at conferences, seminars, landcare centres, council offices or other appropriate locations. Posters are AO size 1189mm x 841mm laminated. Boards of the same size are also available to borrow.

Groups may borrow one or more posters appropriate to the location and habitat. Or the whole set of 22 posters may be borrowed.

There will be no hire charge for the use of the posters however costs incurred in transporting them may need to be met by the group. This can be negotiated at the time of making arrangements to display the material.
