•        Saving and protecting butterfly habitats.  

•        Providing information and advice to local Bushcare/Landcare groups .

•        Identifying food plants and their sites, promoting awareness of their conservation.

•        Raising awareness of the significance of butterfly conservation and endangered  species with the general public.

•        Promoting awareness of butterfly needs with local government and government agencies.

•        Working with other environment groups to include consideration of butterflies and their habitats and activities.

•        Providing education on butterfly conservation to schools.

Annual General Meeting 2009

 The annual general meeting was held in the Urrbrae Wetlands Resource Centre on the Monday evening of the 10th August 2009. Nineteen members attended but unfortunately our out-going chairman was unwell and unable to attend. Phil Coles did an admirable job as stand-in chairperson ad there were several suggested amendments to the constitution which required careful navigation.

All  positions were declared vacant and the incoming committee and office bearers for 2009 - 10 are as follows:

At the conclusion of the meeting the group was treated to an address and power point presentation by Tim Jury entitled "The Threatened Plant Network".  This was followed by an excellent supper and provided the opportunity for a well earned chat.

The Caper White

On Monday 4th December the committee members of the BCSA with members and friends met at the Waite aboretum to celebrate the annual migration of the Caper White [Anaphaeis jave teutonia]. A specific foodplant of this butterfly is the Capparis Mitchelli tree of which one species exists in the aboretum  and it was alongside this tree that the group set down its nibbles and refreshments. The season being as it was, ie rather dry and warmer, the butterflies and come and almost gone, but spirits were undaunted, and we were regaled with the sounds of recorders and drum in the medieval and Celtic style.A very pleasant way to meet good friends and spend an early evening.
