BACKGROUND - The Central Hills Four Wheel Drive Club Inc had its inaugural meeting on 16 February 1996 at the CWA Hall, 8 Mann St, Mount Barker – still our regular venue. That meeting was the inspiration of two local couples.

The Club is an Incorporated Body, with its own Constitution and By-Laws, and is a member of the South Australian Branch of the Australian National Four Wheel Drive Council. It is a registered Friend of all SA Parks, and a registered member of the Arid Lands Recovery Project at Roxby Downs.

We have established ourselves as a friendly group with a proven track record for organising training, trips and social events. These have ranged from multi-week trips visiting such icon destinations as the Great Victoria and Simpson Deserts, the Canning Stock Route, and Cape York; to weekend and day trips and standing camps; plus a range of miscellaneous activities, such as our annual dinner. We currently have 22 members.

JOINING THE CLUB – Membership is open to any person or persons owning, or having legal control of a four wheel drive or all wheel drive vehicle designed for off highway use, interested in the furtherance of the club, and living within one hundred road kilometres of the Mount Barker Post Office. Joining a club is the best way of learning about four wheel driving for beginners, and also the best environment for the more experienced members to enjoy trips and events.

All applications shall be in writing on a Membership Application form, and subject to approval by the Membership. There is a one off joining fee of $15, plus an annual subscription (currently $75.00). After January each year, these subs are payable on a pro-rata basis for new members.

For more information, contact the club by email on ch4wdc@chariot.net.au, or our feedback form. Membership brings certain entitlements such as the issue of our comprehensive Information Booklet (available on CD or computer diskettes), entitlement to special vehicle insurance, and (of course) access to all Club activities.

MEETINGS – Meetings are held on the 4th Thursday of each month, January to November in the CWA Hall, 8 Mann St, Mt Barker.

They commence at 7.30pm, and usually take the format of a general business period, followed by a guest speaker. Light refreshments are provided at no cost or soft drinks at $1.00 per can.

MANAGEMENT – The Club has a full and progressive committee, which meets regularly each month. The Club’s Annual General Meeting is held before 30 June each year, when a new committee and club officers are elected. We also have delegates who attend meetings of the various units of the South Australian Association.

TRIPS AND OTHER ACTIVITIES – The Club regularly runs trips and other events. These are conducted within the framework of our By-Laws, which cover various safety and environmental issues, etc, but do not prevent members having a fun time. Providing they are supervised by their parents, children are welcome as participants. Prospective members and visitors are allowed on Club activities at the discretion of the activity leader, but not to the exclusion of Club members. Vehicles participating in Club activities must be covered by comprehensive or third party property insurance.

Check out our page down the track for more information on upcoming events and trips, or our photo album for what you have missed.

NEWSLETTER – We have our own newsletter (named FOUR-TOLD), which is produced on a monthly basis, and distributed to members by email.
