
Sturt Group responded along with around 150 other Country Fire Service volunteers to fighting a fire burning in the Kyeema Conservation Park.
30 CFS appliances and three firebombing aircraft were involved in fighting the fire which is burnt a 20 hectare section of grass and scrub.
The fire was spotting through the grass and the CFS brigades were successful in stopping the fire from reaching the Kuitpo Forest which is a pine forest.
The Rescue 5-2 helicopter was being used to monitor the fire.
A three hundred metre high column of smoke is rising from the fire.
The fire was located on the Northern side of Woodgate Hill Road.
The fire was pushed by 30 kilometre an hour South-easterly winds, gusting up to 50 kilometres an hour.
A 300 metre high column of smoke rose from the fire, causing concern for residents living in areas like McLaren Vale.
The Sturt Strike team consisted of Sturt Group Officer, Belair 14 (CAFS), Belair Tanker, Blackwood 24, Cherry Gardens 24, Coromandel Valley A24 and Eden Hills 24.
