A physical education centre at St Johns Grammar School has been left a burnt shell after fire completely destroyed the transportable classroom early on Saturday morning.
Firefighters from Belair and Blackwood were alerted to the blaze shortly after 2.30am.
On arrival, the intense smoke and heat from the fire forced crews to wear breathing apparatus as they conducted an external attack to combat the fully engulfed structure.
The fire started as a result of an electrical fault.
It took about 45 minutes to contain but several hours to fully extinguish.
The building housed large amounts of fitness theory and equipment belonging to the School’s staff and students, including more than thirty years of teaching notes.
Damage is likely to exceed $100,000.
