Mediterranian

Flowers in August to November.

Habit: Strong onion smell, 20-40 cm tall, one or a few upright three sided green stems in winter and spring. Leaf bases wrap around the lower stems and bulb.

Leaves: bright green, more or less as long as stems. Limp, pointed, mid vein ridge very prominent, giving triangular cross section.
Flowers: white bell shaped, 6 petals with green veins. Flowers grouped in a head. Flower stalks join stem at a common point.
Fruits: rounded capsules which split. Several black seeds in each capsules.
Roots: small, white, ovoid bulb, surrounded by leaf bases. New bulb starts forming beside old as flowering begins.

Spread: From gardens into open woodlands, especially in wetter areas - gullies, drains, creeklines. Seeds spread by ants and water, bulbs can be spread in soil.

Removal: Begin in least weedy area. Start at upstream end and remove scattered plants first. Pull just before flowering (when bulb has exhausted food supply). Bag bulbs and destroy. Spot spray dense patches as flower stems appear with Glyphosate at 360g/l diluted 1:100 with water and add surficant (wetter).

Can be confused with Milkmaids (no onion smell, and stems not three sided)
