These figures provide a general guide to conditions at Sturt Gorge, although the steep topography of the gorge will have the effect of creating a range of microclimates. Frosts do occur in the park, particularly in locations that experience a poor drainage of cold air and are shaded from early afternoon.

The park experiences prevailing winds from the north—west quarter, gully breezes and sea—breezes. The deeply entrenched gorge has a modifying effect on the direction and intensity of the regional wind system.

The katabatic drainage of cold air down the Sturt Valley from the park has implications on the timing of certain management practices such as burning off and the use of herbicide sprays for weed control. On clear still nights, this drainage frequently results in a temperature inversion occurring in the Sturt Valley at Bedford Park, potentially trapping smoke or herbicidal drift in this residential area.

This information was obtained directly from the management plan.
