Aviculturists
And here is way: Many aviculturists have expressed strong concern in relation to foster parenting and to ensuing problems such as imprinting in the Gouldian Finch. The following information is given to ensure that breeders gain a better understanding of potential problems and will assist in eliminating the practice of foster parenting.
The purpose of fostering is to optimize the number of eggs laid. Bengalis Fiches are prone to diseases which the Gouldian Finch does not usually encounter.
Other problems occur when Gouldian Finches are foster raised. As a result of being imprinted with the habits of the Bengalis Finch rather the those of their natural parents, Gouldian Finches will not feed their young, cocks will not feed the sitting hens and cocks will not sit on eggs at all. This results in birds incapable of raising their young. This, combined with a weaker bird, increased susceptibility to diseases and variation's in climatic conditions, Foster parenting exists for financial gain only, and should be strongly discouraged. If you do breed with the help of Bengalis finches, you finish up with a Gouldian which looks like the Gouldian, but it is not a Gouldian
Advise: When you are buying Gouldians. Buy the birds from a reputable breeder, but you must ask him first and make sure that he has not got Bengalese
That the Birds you buy are not fostered, ( then your birds will produce and will be good Parents.) If you not sure do not buy them, this is my opinion and advise
