Blue Gouldians Genetics
The argument: Double or Single Factor?.
It has been establish that the Blue Gouldians is Recessive, and that the bird with visible blue color must be Double Factor or is it?
Well here is something to think about!
Bird number one: Blue cock X Split Green back Hen, = four young in the nest, two of the young are visible blues, the other two a visible Green Backs, we assume that they are splits.
Bird number two: Blue cock X Split Green Back Hen, = In this nest we have five young and all of them are Green Backs, but after the molt three become visible Blue, and the other two stayed green, so we also assume that other two are splits.
Test breeding the two Green Backs from number one produced Blues. But
Test breeding the number two Green Backs, produced no Blues at all.
So it brings me to the question of: are there a Double and Single Factor visible Blues or not? I will say yes there are two types of Blue, the Double and Single Factor, we know that the genetics are very complicated subject, and lot of it cannot be explained fully with all the different surprises showing on the way.
In my opinion the fist Blue is Double Factor cock bird, and the
Second Blue is Single Factor cock bird, and here clearly the Univesal Mandel Principal of heredity applies 25% Double Factor Blues 50% Splits for Blue and 25% Normal no Blue at all.
