The TYRO is a high wing, single strut braced monoplane, very rugged, constructed of aluminium. The wing and tail is covered with dacron fabric and doped. The aircraft has a wing span of 29ft 2" and the aircraft is 17ft 6" long and has an empty weight of 110kg when powered by the reliable ROTAX 277 28hp two stroke engine, the TYRO is highly manoeuvrable, can fly at low speed, yet has a very respectable cruise speed and will fly comfortably in quite strong winds, a big advantage over some ultra-lights that can only fly safely in very light winds.
Tne TYRO'S rugged construction and bungee rubber suspension allow it to operate off very short unprepared strips, needing no more than approximately 40Oft of clear area of paddock or bush track. This makes it ideal for rural use, such as inspecting dams, checking stock and fences, and even mustering, it is easier to spot cattle in scrub from the air than it is from the ground.
For the weekend pilot the TYRO is an ideal ultra-light to fill the gap from basic licence to experienced pilot, the low cost combined with very minimum maintenance requirements means more time flying and less hand in the pocket. The low purchase price of the components Kit means that you can build your TYRO while learning to fly.
The TYRO Kit has been designed so that the average handyman can build it himself from the plans and components supplied by Geoff Eastwood. All materials are pop riveted or bolted together, requiring nothing more than an electric drill and rivet gun. Once the aircraft Is built it can be assembled or disassembled in 7 minutes and transported on a light weight trailer.
