Electric Guitar Pickups

I have been dabbling with pickup wiring and combinations for about 30 years, ever since my family first trusted me with a soldering iron and an electric guitar in the same room. Over this time I've done a lot of experimentation, found some great sounds, and made plenty of mistakes.   Here's your chance to take the fast road to the good sounds!

What follows applies to any style or quality guitar, although higher quality guitars will generally give more even and predictable sounds. I have used the term "strat" (with a small "s") to refer to the common 3 single coil Fender Stratocaster style of guitar.
