GARDEN RAILWAY |
GROUND LEVEL RIDE ON TRAINS |
HO/HOn3 |
| The Gauge 1 outdoor railway is a new feature which was only commenced in 2006 and now provides an extensive layout in a garden setting. Extensive work is currently being undertaken on the layout by a number of our energetic members. The track is an oval layout with a cross over in centre to make a one way type of figure eight. There are also crossing loops and an extensive yard setting with a turntable. Track power is not available at present so it is necessary for all locomotives to be radio controlled and have their own battery power. |
Our
ground level track is laid to a dual gauge of 184mm (7&1/4
inches) and 127mm (5 inches) and we run on about 1200 metres of track. Our
locos can be either steam, Diesel or Electric. This
extensive miniature railway system allows children and adults alike to
ride behind the scale locomotives on scale rollingstock, up and down hill,
across a bridge, and through a tunnel. There
is also extensive network of sidings and steaming up bays with a traverser
and a turntable. Workshop facilities are provided to assist members to
work on their locomotives. Air, water and portable 12-volt electric power
is available at the steaming up bays. Train
Passengers are required to sit up straight and follow directions given in
the interest of safety whilst riding. They must be wearing fully enclosed
footwear whilst riding on the trains and keep their feet on the footboards
at all times whilst the trains are moving. Visitors
are advised that steam engines are hot; they emit smoke, steam and
sometimes cinders. This is an integral part of the attraction of this type
of motive power. It is suggested that you don’t wear your best clothes
when visiting! Come
along and enjoy an economical afternoon of riding our miniature trains in
between watching the action on the quarterscale speedway of the boat pond. Our
members are a part of a community of like-minded hobbyist & model
engineers who love nothing better than to operate the railway for your
enjoyment and riding pleasure. PLEASE DON’T BE DISAPPOINTED! AL PASSENGERS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR FULLY ENCLOSED FOOTWEAR (NO thongs
or sandals). THE APPROPRIATE FOOTWEAR REDUCES THE RISK OF INJURY! Last updated 14th September 2009 |
There is a fully enclosed extensive indoor HO/HOn3 layout inside the clubrooms that has large viewing windows for the many wide eyed young visitors to watch the vast array of trains running around inside. Many of the trains are scratch built models of Australian Railway prototypes. |
