The Sister & The Saxx formed their musical partnership in 1994 after the demise of Sacred Blue Walrus, a band Antony had been performing in for three years. Triscka's concept was to feature her voice and Antony's saxophone skills with an automated backing.
The music of Sister & The Saxx consists of popular numbers from the 70's, 80's and 90's. The emphasis is on dance and good-time music. They play Soul numbers made famous by Aretha Franklin, The Commitments and Blues Brothers. Their disco collection includes numbers by KC & the Sunshine Band, Cool and the Gang and Gloria Gaynor. Their 90s hits include numbers made famous by Madonna, Eurythmics, Michael Jackson and Chaka Khan. They also do some classic numbers by Dianna Ross, Dusty Springfield and the Pointer Sisters.
All lead vocals are performed by Triscka. She is a consumate performaer who works well with her audience.
The duo's unique sound is created by the changing moods of Antony's of his three saxophones (Tenor, Alto and Soprano). From shrill up-tempo solos to soulful improvised fill, the saxophones always add to the atmosphere.
Accompaniment is provided by the Ensoniq SQ2 and a laptop computer. The backing tracks are rich in instrumentation and provide the listener with the impression of a full band with drums, bass, guitars, strings, brass and everything you would expect in modern band. Antony enhances the backing with his own vocals, live keyboard work and sundry percussion instruments.
For small venues Sister & The Saxx provide all their own amplification. This includes a state of the art mixer and effects unit.
Triscka is the front person for the band and the master of proceedings. She maintains a good rapport with the audience while delivering a highly polished performance.
Triscka has performed in bands in Malta and Australia. Amongst her more recent groups were The Three Little Bops.
Triscka is also a trained sound engineer.
Antony's saxophone playing gives the duo a diversity of sounds and a unique appeal.
