PARISH COUNCIL

The parish council is concerned with the administration of both Saint Augustine's at Victor Harbor and Saint Christopher's at Mount Compass and is composed of parishioners either elected by their fellows or appointed by the parish priest. Eight members are elected at the annual vestry meeting held after Easter each year and the priest has the duty of choosing two others from both churches to be non-elected members, making up a total of twelve councillors.From this group, the positions of parish secretary and parish treasurer are filled. The church wardens, one of whom is chosen by the priest and one by the people, at both Victor Harbor and Mount Compass, are nominated before the vestry meetings. Usually the council meets once a month to discuss matters of concern. It considers and advises on church affairs, on how and where parish finances might best be employed , and in conjunction with the priest, takes those decisions necessary for the successful operation of the parish Most of the parish council represent one of the many groups in the parish i.e. The Mothers' Union, Ladies Guild, Music Group, Pastoral Group, Youth Group and Junior Church, and they can report on how their groups are faring and liase on any planned fund-raising event or social gathering. The Parish Council meets every second Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm in the Chapel room at St. Augustine's. Twice yearly it meets at St. Christopher's at Mt.
