ROSS ROBERTSON NURSING HOME

On the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month  at 11.00am a short Holy Communion service is held at the Ross Robertson Memorial Care Centre for those people who are not able to attend church.  The service is usually taken by the Priest assisted by a Pastoral Assistant.  Hymns are included in the service and helped along by an organist.

All residents of the nursing home are welcome to come along regardless of their denomination or whether they are church people.   About 25 people attend the service and about half are residents and half from outside, mainly from St. Augustine's.  Many of the residents are in wheelchairs or use walking frames, so two or three people go and pick them up from their rooms and help them along to the room where the service is held.

These services have been going for quite a few years, and they are enjoyed by all who come along.  If a resident is unable to attend the service and wishes to have communion, the priest and his assistant take communion to the persons room, so no one has to miss out.  There is always a very caring and loving atmosphere at these services which is shown by the number of people who attend each fortnight.  Anyone who wishes to attend these services is most welcome to come along.

During the year when there is a special day in the churches' calendar i.e Palm Sunday, Palm crosses are given out, for Mothering Sunday, a small spray of flowers and simnel cake are given to the residents and for Easter Sunday, Easter eggs.

At the end of the year we have a Christmas Service, which starts with a special morning tea followed by the service which includes many favourite Christmas hymns, a small gift is also given to the residents.

As well as the services, many residents are visited by parishioners from St. Augustine's, those who can go out of the centre are taken shopping, or for a short drive, and some are picked up to attend Guild meetings or Mother's Union, or any other function that is on.

The Ross Robertson Care Centre is situated in lovely surroundings on the corner of Cornhill Road and Acraman Street, Victor Harbor.  The facility includes Hostel accommodation and a 24 hour care complex.
