I know of a maiden
I know of a maid who gave birth to a boy,
in a stable she lay while the world sang with joy.
I know of a maiden who at Heavens call,
delivered a child to be King of us all.
I know of a child who in truth was our Lord,
who gave of Himself and yet sought no reward.
I know of a child who grew into manhood,
and sought as a teacher to make us do good.
I know of a teacher who taught us to care,
whose infinite love was for all men to share.
I know of a teacher betrayed by a friend,
and sent in derision to meet His sad end.
I know of a mother who mourned her sad loss,
in grief for her Son as He hung on the cross.
I know of a woman whose tears ceased to run,
upon the return of her own precious Son.
I know of a Sovereign who died in much pain,
then rose from the grave, in great glory to reign.
I pray to that King who for my poor sake died,
I pray to His mother who sits at His side.
