Starlight

Beneath the star-strewn sky of night, gaze wond'ring at God's work.
In that dark, dreaming void we were conceived,
for of sparkling star-stuff the Earth was made
And we in turn from earth created

In untold earthly time, we have developed from that seed,
that form, in which we first found nascent life.
As an unborn infant waxes in the womb,
until at last into light it comes.

By the grace of our God, was that gestation surely meant,
to nurture and touch us with his spirit.
And though we may not fully know his mind,
still in our souls burns that holy flame.

Who then, made mad, by our small store of worldly wisdom, claims
this thing could not in seven days be wrought?
For aeons in our human time, may be,
merely minutes in the eyes of God.

And who can gaze upon that star-lit splendour and not know,
that as we came, so we must soon depart?
Bodies one with the starry dust of earth,
free souls, safe in Gods eternal hands.
