New SAGRN mobile radios on the way
Added 26/9/07
With production of the Motorola MCS2000 radios ceasing some time ago, agencies looking for new mobile radios to operate on the SA-GRN have now started installing the Motorola XTL 2500 digital trunking radio. These radios are APCO25 compliant and are therefore capable of digital operation should that be required in the future.

Dick Smith Trunking Scanner may not work on the SAGRN
Added 13/12/06

It has come to our attention that the DTS96 Portable trunk tracking scanner sold by Dick Smith Electronics may not work correctly on the SAGRN. This particular radio needs to be connected to a computer and software to facilitate correct programming of the trunking base and offset frequencies, without these entered the scanner will not trunk track. Unfortunately it seems that currently there is no software that supports this scanner and previous versions made for the Pro96 (US version) do not recognise this Australian model.
If you are looking at purchasing this scanner with the intention of using it to monitor the South Australian or NSW Government Radio Networks I would reconsider. Until someone develops some software that is compatible with this radio you will not be able to program it for these networks.
Uniden Release the UBCD996T Digital Base / Mobile Scanner
Added 2/8/06

The Uniden UBCD996T Digital Scanner is the Mobile or Base

before Christmas. In many ways the Uniden UBCD996T scanner has all of the same
features of the UBCD396T scanner with a few added features such as GPS control
allowing systems to automatically be turned on and off as you pass in and out of
geographical areas.
The UBCD996T is especially designed for in dash mounting and comes with a
mounting bracket for mounting in a standard in dash DIN sized hole.
The Uniden UBCD996T has the same 6000 Channel Memories as its handheld partner

The display of the Uniden UBCD996T is interchangeable by the push of a button
from a red to a green display allowing it to fit in with your standard dash
display in the vehicle.
Trunk Tracker IV technology allows reception of APCO Digital transmissions, APCO
P25 Digital Trunk systems, APCO16 mixed mode (Analogue / Digital) Motorola trunk
systems, EDACS and LTR trunking as well as all of the original PMR frequencies
scanners were designed for.
Multi-Site Trunking allows system channels to be shared across multiple sites
for efficient control channel only monitoring of networks such as the NSW and SA
GRN systems.
Frequency Range: 25 – 512 MHz, 764- 776 MHz, 794 – 806 MHz, 806 – 956 MHz, 1240
– 1300 MHz.
Close Call R.F. Capture Technology included as standard allowing the scanner to
detect and lock onto nearby transmissions making it ideal for use at large
events such as concerts.
Uniden has once again included pre-programmed service searches for:

Marine Weather Broadcasts On-line Survey
Added 2/3/06
The Bureau of Meteorology is conducting a survey to gather information on the usefulness of its HF marine weather broadcasts and ways to improve the service.
If you are a mariner who uses HF radio to receive weather forecasts and warnings from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology's transmitters at Charleville (call sign VMC) and Wiluna (call sign VMW) we would appreciate your time in completing a short on-line survey.
To access the survey please click-on the link below.
If you wish to complete the survey off-line and post to the Bureau separately, you can do so by downloading and printing a copy below (40kb). Please note that you must download Adobe Acrobat Reader (available free from ADOBE) to open the PDF file .
Why are we seeking feedback?
The Bureau of Meteorology commenced this service on 1 July 2002 to replace coast radio station broadcasts. A new system was commissioned by the Bureau to provide a dedicated weather service for mariners. This system provides both automated voice and radiofax broadcasts.
We are keen to hear from all users of the Bureau's marine HF radio service about its usefulness and any suggestions you may have to improve or enhance it.
Please note. This survey closes on 31 March 2006.
