ACTIVITY TWO: Geography and Environment

1. Choose one of the following places to research.
 

2. Click onto the website, then click onto place you have chosen to research.
 

3. Do not print any of the web pages !
 

4. Open a new document in Word and type the name of the place (and state) at the top of the page.
 

5. Return to the Web Page. (Click the Netscape symbol in the tool bar below the screen.)
 

6. Skim read the first two sections: the Introduction, and the History.
 

7. Read the same sections again more carefully, taking notes* while you read.
 

8. When you have finished taking notes, Save the Word document on disc, then print it, and shut down your computer.
 

9. Check the pronunciation and meaning of any unfamiliar words in your notes.
 

10. Check that you can find this town on the classroom map of Australia.
 

11. Using your notes, and the classroom map of Australia, give a brief presentation to the class about this city (max 5 minutes).

 
 
 
 

* How to take notes
 

(1) In Netscape:
 
  • Highlight a part of the text
  • Click on Edit menu
  • Click on Copy
  • Return to your Word Document

                    (2) In Word:
 

  • Click your cursor onto the page where you want the text to go.
  • Click onto Edit menu
  • Click on Paste
                             Then return to Netscape to make further notes.
