The earliest record found by researcher Joan Mould from
Victoria, Australia, was a baptism entry for James Jubal KHANES in 1690 at
Stourton, Wiltshire, England. In the Parish record his parents were noted as Jacob KHANES
and Mary.
In spite of rigorous attempts to trace a birth, baptism or
marriage for Jacob, no entries were found.
This lack of found registration could be explained by an
additional two aspects, the first noting that the given names, through the
generations like Kadmiel, Keros, Kish, Jubal and Cain amongst others, are names
commonly found in the Old Testament, and secondly, family lore recorded by Joan
Mould as having been passed down in a branch of the family, said that the male
originator had been Jewish and had emigrated to England from Germany.
In spite of attempts to follow this possibility back into Germany by Joan
Mould, no confirmation could be found (possibly because of the paucity of
surviving records from that era), so this possibility must remain just that!
This was the situation until 2001 when it was decided to
confirm the baptism entry for James Jubal KHANES which was advised to Joan Mould
by an English researcher. Reference
back to the Wiltshire PRO produced an assurance that NO Stourton birth or
baptism entry could be found in the register as a period including 1690 was
missing and no births or baptisms for that name were recorded in that era.
So it seems that either some radical errors were made by the researcher OR he
"gave the customer what was badly wanted".
