LifeNotes: Lived in "The Cobbles" in Stoke Ferry had a granary and storehouses, also owned in 1833 a large shop in the High St (later called Moulsham House). The shop included a chaise house, storehouses, stables & outbuildings and 1 acre of land. Anthony the 3rd was not a successful businessman, but 2 of his sons (Edward Wright & John Drosier) continued the business.

LifeNotes: Born 21st October 1821 only son of Anthony Etheridge the 4th, and Susanne Sanders (daughter of Charles Sanders from Stoke Ferry). At the age of 27 years he emigrated to South Australia and arrived here on Saturday 20th May 1848, aboard the schooner "The Sadnahuck", the 24th ship to arrive for the year, 129 tons from New Bradford. The Captain Master Barker sailed via St Helena and the Cape of Good Hope.

On the 1st of September 1848 Anthony enlisted in the South Australian Police Dept, he served for 27 years finishing as a Sergeant On 22nd of January 1849, Anthony married Mary Gibbons aged 19 years, at St Pauls Church Port Adelaide, they had 8 children. In 1865 on the 22nd of January, Anthony married for a second time to a widow arriving from Ireland. It is said that he went down to the harbour and met her off the boat, her name was Anne O'Halloran she was a widow, and they had 6 more children.

In 1886 Anthony Etheridge the 5th died. See " The Life and Times of Anthony Etheridge". Death Notice in Adelaide Register May 1886 reads: "At his residence at 44 Elizabeth Street, Norwood, of heart disease. Anthony Etheridge formerly of Norfolk England, aged 65 years."

Anthony is buried at West Terrace Cemetery Adelaide with his son's Anthony Etheridge (6th) and Charles Edward Etheridge.

LifeNotes: In 1868, aged 18 she entered as a novice the Josephite Society in Kensington, a year later in June 1869 she took her vows and became known as Sister Elizabeth.

From the History of the Josephite Society - the following item on Susan Etheridge:

"One of the most outstanding of the sisters who worked in the charitable institutions was Sister Elizabeth (Susan Etheridge). Locally born Elizabeth entered the Josephites shortly after her 18th birthday. She had only limited schooling but evinced a real empathy and understanding for her aged charges at the Providence, where she spent most of her long life. With time, Elizabeth and the Providence became almost synonymous, and she with Sister Hilda (Bridget McNamara from Clare in the South Australian mid north), gave the place a character all its own."

LifeNotes: Born in Bromley Kent in 1863. Came to Australia to take up a colonial appointment to Government House Adelaide in August 1890. Served as a Military Orderly to the Earl of Kintore (1889 - 1895) and then Sir Fowell Buxton (1895 - 1898). In Sept 1898, left Government House Adelaide.

In Sept 1899 enrolled into the South African Boer War. Served with the 6th and 3rd Imperial NSW Bushmen's units in South Africa. First as a Squadron Sergeant Major with F Squadron of the 6th, then in June 1900 commissioned as a Lieutenant and transferred to the 3rd Imp. Bushmen. Was awarded the Kings and Queens Boer War Medals and 4 bars - for service in Transvaal, Orange Free State, Rhodesia and Cape Colony. Returned to Sydney in Sept 1902 aboard the Troopship "The Drayton Grange".

On this return to Australia, he was appointed to Her Majesties Gaol at Port Wallaroo from 1903 - 1910, then to Gladstone Gaol 1910 - 1912, then to Port Augusta Gaol as Keeper from 1912 to 1930 when he retired. On retirement he lived with his children in Adelaide and Narracoorte in South Australia. George died on the 5th of May 1938 and is buried in the West Terrace Cemetery Adelaide.
