LifeNotes: In 1881 census living with his parents at a cottage in Little Wakering, Essex. Worked as a bargeman in Chelmsford before joining the Royal Navy at a Stoker IN 1895. Served on the following ships: PEMBROKE, WILDFIRE,ANSON, THETIS, CYCLOPS, CHATHAM, DUNCAN, HEYTHORP and BODICEA, On retirement he held the rank of Stoker PO in 1921. He moved to Lincolnshire and bought the house at 7 Leasingham Lane, Ruskington. Frederick worked as Head Stoker at Cranwell RAF (1921 - 1940).

4th Generation

Name:  Ernest Leslie GOODWIN - (known as Ernie to family, and Les to friends)

LifeNotes: Born in Gillingham Kent. Left school at 14 and worked at Whites farm in Ruskington until he was 16 as an Ag Lab with his brothers Albert and Jack. At 16 joined the Army, over the following years completed a mechanical engineers course, and joined the Tank Corp. At 25 was living in London, was now part of the Army Reserve. Employed at the Staines Reservoir as a mechanical engineer and earning £6 a week. Married on his 26th birthday (16/3/1938) to a London girl, Doris Helen JEATER. In 1939 called back into the Regular Army made up to Staff Sergeant Major, and assigned as an instructor in the Tank Corp. Saw service in North Africa. After the war signed on to work in South Africa/Rhodesia with British Government. Worked there for 11 years. In 1960 moved to Australia with his wife and 3 daughters, worked on the Adelaide to Mannum Pipeline, and as a Driving Instructor for the RAA (Royal Automobile Association). Died on his 53 birthday (16/3/1965).
