Carbon Century
Science
fiction is a great deal like archaeology: it attempts to figure out the mystery
of the future on the basis of the present, while archaeology attempts to figure
out the mystery of the past on the basis of the present.
Brian Hayden in
Archaeology: The Science of Once and Future Things (1993).
