Car Dress Woodwork Restoration

                  Finishing

A modern hi-tech catalysed acrylic enamel is used to coat the restored timber. It is an extremely robust product designed to withstand the extreme conditions found on oil rigs. It is specified to 150oC, is tough, plastic and resistant to damage by atmospheric and other chemicals.  It is highly UV resistant.

A typical job receives fifteen to twenty coats usually punctuated by a 2 day drying period every three coats. Sanding back occurs frequently. This means that, typically, a job may be in the spray booth  for two to three weeks. The finish can be either full gloss or satin.

After the clear finish is applied, the job is polished and packaged.

The timber can, for some tastes, look a little over-restored when first finished. However after a few months the finish will settle, allowing the grain of the timber to show through and provide a subtle texture to the surface.
